Michael Fay, with the wholehearted support of ESRI, is building an extensive geographic information system (GIS) technology for the Megatransect and specifically Langoué National Park. It will consist of an assembly of photographs, videos, and geographically referenced and assimilated field notes. A set of images, map layers, and other geographic information will also be incorporated.

This system will be the first GIS that includes integrated multimedia in field research exploration.

The Congo GIS information will be recorded and posted on a Web site, as well as published on National Geographic’s MapMachine.
